Academic Competitions

Quick Recall Team

Our Academic Team competes in weekly quick recall matches within the Northern Kentucky Academic League (NKAL) at three levels: Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Freshmen. Our students also compete in various tournaments throughout the school year in quick recall, written composition, and written tests in five core subject areas: Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, and Arts and Humanities. These additional tournaments include, but are not limited to: JV Challenge, Northern Kentucky Quizbiowl League (NKQL), Fleming County Academic Tournament, and Governor’s Cup Competition.

Grade School Academic Tournament

The first annual Bishop Brossart Grade School Academic tournament was held in 2014 and is an annual event where our high school academic team hosts our local grade schools for a day of fun quick recall competition. BBHS students do everything from planning, editing questions, setup/cleanup, and officiating this event. The 2014 Champion was Sts. Peter and Paul School and the Runner Up was St. Mary of the Assumption.

John O’Bryan Math Tournament

Each year BBHS sends 5 member teams to Northern Kentucky University for the John O’Bryan Math Tournament. This event in one of a kind in our area, providing our students with an opportunity to compete both individually and as a team in mathematics. The John O’Bryan Math Tournament is held each year in November. For more information, please visit this site.

American Mathematics Competition

Each February, some of our top math students at each grade level compete in the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) sponsored by the Mathematical Association of America (MAA.) The test is taken at the 9th/10th grade and 11th/12th grade levels. The top finisher at each level receives a pin that may be worn at graduation. Qualifying individuals on the AMC test may take the AIME (American Individual Mathematics Exam) which is the next level of national competition.
