The guidance department through individual and group counseling assists students in scheduling appropriate courses based on graduation requirements, providing information for transition to post-secondary education, and coordinating career and college placement exams and explanation of results.

Students, Faculty and Support Staff
Bishop Brossart enrolls 311 young men and women in grades 9 through 12.  There are 97 freshmen, 72 sophomores, 74 juniors, and 68 seniors enrolled for the 2022-23 academic year.  

The faculty at Bishop Brossart is comprised of 28 teachers.  The administrative team includes the Principal, Director of Counseling, Director of Development, Director of Curriculum, Dean of Academics, Dean of Discipline and Business Manager.  There are additional support staff members.  

The student to teacher ratio is 12:1 and the average class size is 18.

Curriculum
The academic year begins on August 9, 2023 and is scheduled to conclude on May 24, 2024.  The school year is divided in four quarters each consisting of nine weeks, two semesters.  Semester examinations are given at the end of each semester – December and May.  There are seven periods in the school day each consisting of 48 minutes of instruction. 

After the completion of each course, academic credits are awarded.  Twenty-six academic credits are required for graduation including the following:

CLASS OF 2023 STATISTICS
Every year between 93% and 99% of Bishop Brossart graduates attend college upon graduation.  Most will attend four-year institutions while some will attend two-year colleges.  Some will enter the armed services or the seminary. 

  • 96% of the graduating class of seventy-seven students enrolled at a two-year or four-year institution
  • Nearly $7 million dollars in scholarship offers were received by graduating seniors
  • 1 enlisted in the armed services –The United States Marines Corps.
  • 1 National Merit Scholarship Finalist
  • 11 students received a composite score of 30 or higher on the ACT
  • 5 students accepted in the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program
  • 1 student was accepted into the Governor’s School for the Arts
  • 33 National Honor Society members; 11 National English Honor Society; 17 National Beta Club; 4 National French Honor Society; 4 National Spanish Honor Society
  • 65% earned an average of 15 college credit hours through the AP and Dual Credit programs

Bishop Brossart is proud to be able to offer Advanced Placement (AP) courses as well as a variety of Dual Credit courses.  For the 2023-2024 academic year the following AP and Dual Credit courses are offered:

An Academic Enhancement Program (AEP) is also available for students who have been professionally diagnosed with learning differences.

Grading and Ranking
Bishop Brossart High School calculates grades on a numeric system, using a scale of 0% – 100%. Grade scale was updated June 2020. 

A –  90 – 100     
B – 80 – 89                   
C – 70 – 79
D – 60 – 69
F – any grade 59 or lower

Courses carry a quality point value 4.00 for regular courses, 4.50 for Honors level courses, and 5.00 for AP and Dual Credit courses.  Class rank is not listed on the official transcript.

Academic Performance
Every Bishop Brossart student will take the ACT at least once during their junior year.  The class of 2023 achieved an overall ACT Composite score of 23.7 while the top 25% of the class of 2023 received a 27.1 overall ACT Composite.  Too few students take the SAT to generate a profile.

FRESHMEN:
Pre ACT 
– students take the Pre ACT in the fall.  Student and aggregate reports summarize student performance, identify early intervention needs, and provide item-by-item performance for each Pre ACT examinee. 

SOPHOMORE: 
Pre ACT
 – students take the Pre ACT in the fall.  Student and aggregate reports summarize student performance, identify early intervention needs, and provide item-by-item performance for each Pre ACT examinee.  

PSAT – offered to students who wish to take the test during their sophomore year.  Students receive their test results along with their test booklet and answers to each question.  Students can use results to review incorrect answers.

JUNIOR:
Practice ACT – students take the practice ACT in the fall through.  Students are provided their test results to gauge their level of readiness. School counselor receives student results in order to advise students regarding test preparation opportunities.

PSAT – offered to students who wish to take the test during their junior year.  Students receive their test results along with their test booklet and answers to each question.  Students can use results to review incorrect answers. As a junior, score results from the PSAT may qualify students for the opportunity to become a National Merit Scholarship Semi Finalist.

District Choice ACT – students take the District Choice ACT in February/March.  Test results are college reportable. Students have a level of comfort taking the college reportable test in a familiar environment.  Student and aggregate reports summarize student performance and identify intervention needs.

SENIOR:

Terrace Metrics

All students will be provided the opportunity to participate in the Terrace Metrics Behavioral Health Assessment to assess risk and help students and teachers be more resilient so they can maximize educational outcomes.
